All Hardy Marine Boats For Sale

Hardy Motor Boats trace their origins back to 1975, when brothers David and John Hardy, inspired by the boating traditions of the Norfolk Broads, first set out to create reliable, all-weather craft. In 1976, John Hardy formally founded Hardy Marine, setting up production of small cruisers designed to tackle the ever-changing British climate. Even in those early days, Hardy's vessels earned a reputation for marrying robust design with the comforts needed for extended cruising- qualities that would become the brand's calling card.

As the company grew, it introduced designs like the Hardy 36, Commander 32, and Commodore 42, each reflecting John Hardy's ethos of strength, safety, and practicality. By the early 2000s, Hardy’s reputation had spread well beyond the UK's shores, bolstered further by the launch of the Hardy 50 in 2004. These boats were prized not just by private owners but also by major organizations such as the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, which welcomed two Hardy 42s into its training fleet. Around the same time, the marine electronics specialist Raymarine chose Hardy as its test platform, running a Hardy 36 and later a Hardy 42 for countless hours at sea to trial new navigation equipment.

In 2013, Hardy Marine came under the ownership of the Windboats Group, a British builder with deep roots dating back to 1920. Although Hardy's order books remained healthy, the economic upheaval triggered by the COVID19 pandemic prompted Windboats to sell the brand in 2020. Enter Cockwells Modern and Classic Boatbuilding, based in Cornwall and led by Dave Cockwell, who acquired the Hardy assets and continued production near Falmouth. Working closely with the naval architect Andrew Wolstenholme, Cockwells has preserved the essence of what made Hardy boats so beloved: time-tested hull designs, semi-displacement performance, and the reassuring solidity that encourages adventurous cruises across British waters and beyond.

Today, as Hardy Motor Yachts continue their journey under Cockwells' stewardship, they carry forward the spirit instilled by David and John Hardy - practicality, comfort, and understated British craftsmanship. Though the designs evolve with modern technologies, that core focus on building secure, reliable cruising vessels remains at the heart of every Hardy.
