1960 Dutch Bunker Barge for sale in Kent
Pennisol, is a 1960 built Dutch steel bunker barge that has since been converted into a liveaboard houseboat which benefits from a recent full survey (June 2021) . The conversion of the living accommodation has been done to a good standard. It is vessel has not been lived on for some time, but it is being maintained by the owner’s representative. The vessel currently has a saloon, galley, heads with shower and one double bedroom. The vessel would benefit from a new suitable paint application on the outside, this would help protect it from future corrosion. A liveaboard berth is available at Swale Marina, Kent subject to some terms and conditions.
Accommodation
The vessel’s main living area was converted as a houseboat, fully lined and insulated. A large saloon galley area with polished solid wood flooring throughout. The saloon area is ideal for free standing furniture of your choice .A wood burning stove heater is in the centre. A small galley area with microwave, 2- ring hob, sink and fridge is to the starboard side, with Heads and shower opposite and to port .
The forward end of the living area is a bedroom with a double bed and fitted wardrobe. The wheelhouse is sparsely fitted out, with a small bench seat and steering controls. This gives access to the engine room.
There is a large deck space which could be used to accommodate outside seating if required.
Mechanical and Rigging
Mechanical Systems:
This Dutch steel bunker barge has a DAF straight 6-cylinder keel cooled diesel engine fixed on solid engine mounts. The HP of the engine is currently unknown. It has an electronic gearbox selection with a shaft drive to a three bladed prop.
It has an approximate 1000 litre steel fuel tank in the engine room with pipe work using a combination of copper and steel braided hoses. The engine has not recently been serviced but this can be arranged by the owner if required.
Electrical Systems:
The vessel has a 24v battery system fitted for the engine. The starting batteries are located on the starboard side of the engine room . The isolators are located in the engine room next to the battery bank. All batteries were replaced in 2022. The service batteries are also a 24-volt system connected to a converter to supply the 12-volt systems on board, including the interior lights.
The isolators for this system are found under the steps to the main living area. In the companionway there is a 240v distribution board that is in good order. There is a main shore power system ring main, immersion heater, and battery charger installed on this boat.

This Dutch Bunker barge was built by De Hoop of Schiedam in 1960 as a fuel tanker ,and converted in 1999 to a liveaboard barge. The vessel has had two previous owners to the current owners knowledge. The current owner has had the vessel for the past 10 years and is now living abroad, hence the reason for the sale. The vessel was last out of the water in 2021 for the survey a copy of which is available upon request which is when she was last antifouled and the anodes changed.
