Further information
Originally this Boston Whaler Newport 17 was used as a tender on a Feadship superyacht, and was serviced and maintained by the engineering crew for many years.
It has been refurbished, new electronics, batteries, all woodwork cleaned and floor repainted. Capable of in excess of 30 knots, Boston Whalers are renowned for their stable hull design.
Age of the boat is unknown but is estimated as early to mid 90's.
Newport 17 and Montauk 17 have the same hull design but differ in the cockpit layout.
Boston Whaler
The Boston Whaler 17 Newport features a squared-off bow for a big, roomy cockpit and a stable, dry ride that the twin sponson designed Montauk hulls provide.
The 360-degree walk-around design makes it easier to move about. There's a grab rail within reach from anywhere in the boat and a moulded-in non-skid surface that provides a solid foothold. The reversible pilot seat is big enough to fit two comfortably, and the back flips forward so it can be used as an aft-facing seat.
Boston Whaler has, for many years, sawn boats in half to illustrate their durability, performance, smooth ride and 'unsinkability'. The original 1961 magazine ad pictured Dick Fisher sitting in a floating 13-foot (4.0 m) Whaler with a crosscut saw halfway through the hull. After the cut was completed, Fisher used the stern section to tow the bow section back to shore. Modern Whaler advertising uses a chain saw. Due to the foam core construction, the Whaler will remain afloat when sawed completely in half. Boston Whaler boats also remain afloat when completely swamped (full of water). Because of these attributes, Boston Whaler's trademarked sales line is 'the unsinkable legend'.
