An Extraordinary Opportunity: Acquire a 1977 Ron Holland-Designed Sailing Yacht
This is a rare chance to own a classic 1977 sailing yacht designed by the renowned naval architect Ron Holland. Known for his innovative approach to yacht design, Holland’s work on this vessel reflects a perfect combination of performance, seaworthiness, and classic aesthetics. This yacht represents a milestone in performance yacht design.
Constructed with a hybrid hull utilising Kevlar and GRP for strength, rigidity, and reduced weight, this vessel offers superior durability and enhanced speed. The inclusion of an alloy space frame ensures structural integrity while minimising overall weight.
Refit History & SurveyOdette had a major refit and modernisation programme completed in 2012/13 and was being used as a Cruiser and part time racer by her previous owners.
She had an excellent full structural survey completed in March 2014 (available on request to serious buyers), confirming the refit was completed to an excellent standard.
She also benefitted from a new mast (ex Swan 411), standing rigging and new Beta engine.
Owners Comments
This is a very special, 1977, Ron Holland design, 42 foot, ex IOR Admirals Cup and Fastnet yacht (completer!). She is of significant historic and technical value, being designed by Ron Holland and Butch Dalrymple-Smith as a sibling to the very famous 'Imp'. Imp was one of the most successful ocean racing boats in yachting history and took the yacht-racing world by storm from her launch in January 1977 and is still winning races today. Odette shares many of the design features of Imp, including the use of an alloy space frame and Kevlar and GRP hull.
Accommodation
The forward cabin features a double berth or sail locker, ample storage, and a roof hatch. A door leads to the saloon, which includes newly upholstered, long bench seating with deep shelving for storage behind. On the port side, a straight galley is equipped with a new cooker and fridge, with plenty of storage in lockers above and below. Moving further aft on the port side, there is access to the engine and a second cabin with a double berth and storage. To starboard, you'll find an aft-facing chart table that leads to the heads and a storage locker.
Odette has benefited from new wooden slat panelling headlining with elegant LED light fixtures and fittings. The flooring is still in progress with synthetic panels being installed.
