1970 Van De Stadt – For Sale in Kent.

This Van De Stadt sloop-rigged sailing cruiser, with mouldings built by Tyler Boat Company of Hoo in 1971 and constructed by Offshore Yachts Ltd of Royston, is currently moored at Gillingham Marina where a berth is available.

The yacht offers four berths, including a forward double cabin and two single berths in the saloon. This solid yet fast cruiser provides comfortable accommodation for its size. This yacht has been well maintained and updated. It would make an ideal first yacht. A berth at Gillingham Marina is also available

Accommodation

This 1971 Van De Stadt Offshore accommodates four berths in two cabins. The bow has a double V-berth with an infill and storage underneath.

Moving aft towards the saloon, located behind the forepeak is the heads to port with a marine toilet with storage shelves behind, opposite to starboard is an additional locker with hanging storage.

Located a midships is the galley with a single stainless-steel sink with manually pumped cold water to port and opposite to starboard a two burner stainless steel spirit cooker.

The saloon includes two booth seating areas to both port and starboard that can easily convert to single berths. Ample natural light is provided by two non-opening windows and opening deck hatch in the forepeak. The interior is finished in light teak, with red upholstery and 6 ft headroom, and the saloon offers ample storage space for its size. Internal lighting has been updated to LED. 

Access to the engine is via the companionway steps, these steps led to the aft cockpit with its tiller steering and bench seating for four people with reasonable storage space.

Mechanical and Rigging

Sails and Spars:

This Van De Stadt Offshore has a Bermudan Masthead sloop rig with a deck stepped aluminium mast and boom with stainless steel standing rigging, that was replaced in 2006. This boat benefits from the mast having been rewired in 2015 and the running rigging replaced as and when required. Benefitting from a slab reefing mainsail, and furling headsail for added convenience. A whisker pole is stored in the fore cabin.

Mechanical Systems:

Located under the companionway steps is a Volvo Penta 12hp diesel engine, propelling a shaft driven two-bladed fixed propeller. The engine was rebuilt in 2008 and is supplied by a single 25 litre plastic fuel tank. The engine received its last service by the current owner and benefits from new engine sea cocks in 2019. The engine cylinder head was rebuilt in 2018 and anew exhaust elbow in 2019. This Engine has completed 1331 hours. It has a single lever morse control with electric start.

Electrical Systems:

2 x 12v deep cycle leisure batteries (1 x Domestic and 1 x for Engine Starting) charging from alternator, 2x solar panels, this vessel also benefits from a 240 – volt shore power ring main system. A battery monitor is also fitted.

History & Construction

This Van De Stadt Offshore 8M yacht is of GRP construction design with a long keel with spade rudder. Mouldings by Tyler Boat Company Ltd Hoo with a Lloyds Certification and constructed by Offshore Yachts of Royston, Hertfordshire in 1971. This yacht features a white GRP hull and superstructure, with non-slip decks enhancing safety on board. The yacht was last out of the water in 2023 when she was antifouled, and the anodes changed. A 2011 survey report available upon request. The owner is selling due to moving into different hobbies.
