The Yarmouth 23 is a ‘character’ yacht of manageable size designed to provide safe and comfortable cruising, whether for the family or the single-handed sailor. All sail controls are led back to the safety of the cockpit and a sunken foredeck provides additional crew protection when working forward.
Accommodation
Fore cabin: double v-berth arrangement with lockers under. Overhead hatch. Hull window port and starboard. Saloon: port and starboard settee berths, with trotter boxes into the fore cabin. Portable table. Hull windows port and starboard. Heads: Jabsco sea toilet. Corner cabinet with space for a wash-basin. Porthole. Galley: Plastic-faced worktop with cupboard underneath. Wallas diesel hob. Stainless steel sink with hot and cold water supply. Stowage for crockery, glasses etc. Porthole. Lights fitted to the fore-cabin, saloon, heads and galley. Cabin sole is of 8mm Marine Ply with simulated teak and holly laminate.
Mechanical and Rigging
Hull and deck: heavy duty GRP mouldings. Hull colour is white. Two vestigial bilge plates to allow the boat to sit almost upright when taking the ground have been retro-fitted by The Yarmouth Boat Company Limited (plans and photos available). Rudder is constructed of laminated plywood (to BS1088) and hardwood cheeks, epoxy sheathed. Laminated wood tiller. Designer: Wyatt & Freeman Builders: Neil Fernando & Co (PVT) Ltd, Sri Lanka with The Yarmouth Boat Company Ltd, IOW. Design Category: B (for 6 persons). Beta BZ482 13.5 hp inboard diesel. Water cooled exhaust system. Sound-proofed engine compartment. Stainless steel shaft with 3-bladed bronze propeller (new 2008). Diesel tank: 45 litres. Water tank: 75 litres. 12v electrical system comprising 2 batteries (75Ah start and 85Ah service) in purpose built secure vented battery box. Gaff rig comprising tan main, tan jib, white staysail (new – May 2008 - never used). Spars (mast, boom, gaff and bowsprit) are of wood. Reefing for the main consists of lazy-jacks and a lazy-bag system; jib and staysail use roller reefing. Running rigging renewed 2008.
