This Oyster Lightwave 395 was built in 1988 by Oyster Marine Ltd. Powered by a Yanmar 3GM30 28hp 3 cylinder diesel engine that has been serviced regularly by the owner (an engineer). Just launched after eight years ashore where she had a complete overhaul and refit. Bermuda Sloop rig with Hemp aluminium alloy soars (1990). The standing rigging was replaced in about 1999 and the running rigging in July 2017. Navigation Equipment includes; Autohelm ST 60 log/ speed/ depth/ wind, Autohelm ST60 Autopilot , Autohelm ST 60 GPS/plotter. All installed in 2012.
PRELUDE II OF ST AUBIN will sleep 8 in 3 cabins (including the saloon). There are linear settees to port and starboard with Pullman berths over in the saloon (all with lee cloths). The dining table folds away and is stowed against the bulkhead to maximise the available space below. The fore cabin has a V berth with and infill and the aft cabin has a double berth and dressing seat.
The Oyster Lightwave 395 was designed by Carl Schumaker as a high performance cruiser racer, 22 lightwaves were built by Oyster marine, Prelude II was hull number 7. The ‘AD’ means added draft and PRELUDE II has the advantage of a deeper heavier keel. Most sail handling tasks can be accomplished with ease from the cockpit. Massive sail locker in the cockpit so that sails are accessible and not taking up cabin space.
Exciting to sail, yet safe and simple, the 395 has a masthead rig, which is easy to handle while family sailing. Other examples have competed well as shorthanded racers, but the majority are now used for fast cruising.
This Oyster Lightwave 395 looks so much younger than her years, and is a credit to her designer Carl Schumacher, a talented naval architect and gentle, competitive sailor designed over 50 production and custom sailboats; and to her owner who has lovingly brought her back to life.
