Used Boat Sales Up
Despite the unsettled state of UK politics in January 2019, Network Yacht Brokers Kent has seen a 25% increase in used boat sales in January 2019, i.e. yachts and motorboats, in comparison to the same period in 2018.
While used boat sales prices are down on 2018 there has been some hardening of used boat prices with sellers holding out for offers close to their asking price where the original selling price has been set at a realistic level.
We have also seen the number of good quality yachts and motorboats coming to market increase over the past four weeks. These good quality boats, i.e. those that are presented well, with good service history, engine(s) that have recently been serviced, anodes changed and antifouled, have been selling in weeks rather than months. Used Boat Sales – The Buyers:
Used boat sales in January have also predominantly been to UK buyers rather than overseas buyers which was not the case in 2018. It is difficult to say whether the increase in UK buyers is down to people deciding to spend more time on UK based leisure activities or the fact that there has been no London Boat Show in January 2019. The slight increase in the value of the pound and some uncertainty on the part of European buyers about whether they will have any issues moving UK boats back to Europe due to Brexit has certainly reduced the number of European buyers we have seen in January.
Summary:
In summary January brokerage sales has delivered a great start to the year. Hopefully, the cold snap that hit the East Coast in March 2018 and slowed the brokerage market down will not show itself again this year.
