1991 Moody 31 MK II Bilge Keel £27,250

The Moody 31 MKII is fast becoming a classic family cruising yacht thanks to their comfortable accommodation, good all round performance and sugar scoop stern. "Koala" is a very good  example of her kind with the advantage of bilge keels with tiller steering, electric windlass, diesel heating, autopilot, 2010 Crusader sails and more. If you are considering a Moody 31 MKII she should be viewed as she is likely to be one of the best available.

Accommodation

The Moody 31 MK II provides accommodation for up to six people in two cabins, offering approximately 6 feet of headroom.

In the forepeak, there's a double V berth with an infill, ample storage including a wardrobe, cupboard, and side shelves, as well as an opening deck hatch overhead for ventilation and natural light.

Aft of the forepeak, the saloon presents two settee berths on both the port and starboard sides, flanking the central table. Under-seat stowage and numerous lockers and cupboards are spread throughout the saloon.

Situated on the starboard side aft of the saloon, the galley features a stainless-steel sink equipped with pressurized hot and cold water. It also includes a gimballed 2-burner gas cooker with a grill and oven, a top-loading fridge, and ample storage space.

Beyond the galley lies a double aft cabin, complete with a hanging locker, ample storage, and a portlight.

On the port side, across from the galley, the Moody 31 Mk II features a forward-facing navigation station ideal for accommodating full-size charts. The table beneath provides storage space for multiple charts, while also housing the navigational instrumentation and the electrical distribution panel.

Aft of the chart table lies the separate heads compartment, furnished with a white sink set in a vanity unit, complete with pressurized hot and cold water. Additionally, it features a built-in shower tray, a marine toilet, and a mirror. 

This Moody 31 Mk II also benefits from a diesel fired heating system with timer with outlets in saloon, heads, fore and aft cabins. The galley and heads pressurised water is supplied via a calorifier being heated by the engine and 240v immersion heater.

Mechanical and Rigging

Sails & Spars

This Moody 31 MK II has a Bermudan sloop rig with a deck stepped silver anodised aluminium mast and boom. It has stainless steel standing rigging. The standing rigging was replaced in 2010 and the age of the running rigging is unknown

The vessel has a Rotostay furling headsail with a Stackpack slab reefing mainsail, with lazyjacks and Terylene running rigging. The Stackpack was replaced in 2014.

Winches:

Mechanical Systems

This Moody 31 MK II has a single, 28HP 2003 Volvo diesel engine powering a shaft-driven two-bladed fixed propeller with an ambassador rope cutter. The Volvo is supplied by a 75-litre capacity steel fuel tank with Morse controls.

The shaft and Engine mounts were replaced in 2010 and a new shaft seal was fitted in 2014. This yacht will cruise at approximately 5 knots and has an approximate maximum speed of 7 knots.

The engine hours are unknown.


Electrical Systems

This yacht has 3 x 12v batteries (1 x Domestic, 1 x Engine & 1 x Anchor windlass) charging via the engine alternator, Battery charger and Solar panel with charge controller. It also has a 240v Shorepower system with ring mains and 240V immersion heater.

History and Construction

This Moody 31 MK II was built in 1991 by Marine Projects Plymouth, to a Bill Dixon design. The Vessel has a white GRP hull and superstructure and decks with non-slip surfaces. She benefits from cast iron bilge keels, tiller steering with a skeg hung rudder, with a self-draining cockpit and anchor well, alloy toe rails and sugar scoop transom. Last out of the water in 2019 when the hull was polished, anodes changed and antifouled.
