This X332 "Brightwork" has earned a great reputation on the UK racing scene as well as proving to be a very satisfying yacht for extended cruising.
'Brightwork' is based in Lymington,Hampshire and has been well looked after and updated by her present owner.
Her hull has been race maintained and her stainless steel rod rigging was replaced along with all fittings in 2012. Her Yanmar 2gm engine is regularly serviced by a professional engineer.
She has enjoyed many race victories under her current owner and is ready to be campaigned by her next owner or used for cruising far and wide or possibly both.
Her accommodation is spacious sleeping 6 in 2 cabins. She has a good sized heads and practical galley space. Both forward and rear cabins have hanging locker space as well as under bunk lockers.
She is a stable, safe, and easily handled coastal and offshore yacht .
Capable of bringing home the silver ware as well as fast passage making.
Owners Remarks
Brightwork is one of the later X-332 boats built in 2002 in Denmark to X-Yachts exacting standards.
Construction
The hull and deck are built of hand laid fibre glass in sandwich construction with hard compressed Divinycell foam of 20-15mm thickness. Solid laminate in connection with deck fittings, around keel, bottom girder and rudder attachment, and by all through hull fittings
The hull and deck are joined with special fibre glass glue and reinforced through the bolted alloy toe rail for every 100mm
3x Similar waterlines and sheer line at the white hull, window surrounding coloured as waterlines and light gray anti slip area in deck-all colours/surfaces are molded gelcoat.
Hot galvanized steel bottom frame, glassed into the solid fibre glass part of the hull, taking the loads from the keel bolts and the maststep. The steel frame is provided with an eye to take a central lifting strop. The keel to hull joint is therefore exceptionally robust.
All bulkheads are Marine grade mahogany plywood varying from 9-16 mm and are glassed into the hull to stiffen the total structure
Keel & Rudder
The upper part of the keel is cast iron 450 kgs, the lower part is antimony hardened lead 1,100 kgs- this combination provides a low weight centreand strong connection to the hull. The keel is fixed with 10 stainless steel bolts. The keel is treated against rust with 1 layer fibre glass and is filled with polyester filler and painted with light primer.
Rudder Blade built in hand laid biaxial E-glass. Hard compressed PVC foam. Rudder stock in solid aluminium with diameter from 65 to 35 mm. Rudder head in anodised alloy and standard tiller in laminated curved teak.
Sail setup & Rating
X332's were originally setup and rated with large overlapping head sails (No.1,No.2 and No.3) and medium size spinnakers. This works for both cruising and IRC racing. However in 2001/2012 we found that for IRC in the Solent winds we were sailing most of the time with a No.3 jib but paying on the rating for a large No.1 genoa. Accordingly we fitted non overlapping code 1,2 and 3 jibs and a larger general purpose spinnaker.
The boat can be raced more competitively like this, although the previous setup is still available.
Improvements
Brightwork was hauled mid 2014 when the hull and keel were extensively refurbished by Simon Bevan of Quayside Marine. The work included Sandblasting hull and keel, Re-coating with epoxy, Marine undercoat, Anti fouling with Blakes Hard Racing Anti foul, Sanding to racing finish and some minor gel coat repair on deck this
upgrade cost £7000
Accommodation
The X332 has a spacious and practical interior design. She sleeps 6 in a twin fore cabin ,2 in the saloon with 2 in a wide double rear cabin. Her galley has an oven, refrigerator and double sinks with plenty of dry storage. Her heads are particularly large with a vanity unit and wet locker.
